Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the Occoquan Craft Show?
A: The Occoquan Craft Show is an event that has been featuring artists
and crafters for over 25 years. Currently, there are two craft
shows held by the Town of Occoquan annually: the Spring Craft Show and
Fall Craft Show.
Q: What is Occoquan?
A: Occoquan is derived from a Dogue Indian word meaning "at the end of
the water." The Town of Occoquan, formally established by
Nathaniel Ellicott in 1804, brought to fruition industrial and
commercial developments begun 'at or near the falls of Occoquan' by John
Ballendine c. 1750.
The estuary of the Occoquan has attracted the attention of travelers since the time of John Smith. Adjacent lands were patented by the 1650s; copper was being shipped from 'King' Carter's landing, and tobacco from a public warehouse by the 1730s
Today Occoquan features a large number and variety of historic homes and businesses. Most have been in continuous use for over 100 years and many for over 200. Several of these old buildings also feature local ghosts. Some of these ghosts have been authenticated by outside experts, others have been witnessed by residents and visitors to town.

Q: What is a juried craft show?
A: ‘Juried’ means that a jury (a knowledgeable committee) reviews
applications consisting of slides or photographs and other information
provided by the artists and crafters of the items that they plan to sell
at the show. Only the artists and vendors who's applications have
been accepted by the jury participate in the craft show.
Q: If I live in town, how can I enter or
leave Occoquan during the craft show?
Traffic Control Personnel will be instructed to allow vehicles
displaying current Town decals access through pre-determined routes
along Center Lane.
Note: Residents of Barrington/Occoquan Pointe
must use Washington Street and Center Lane when entering town, and
Tanyard Hill Road when leaving town.
